Three southern States vying to host RP Sanjiv Goenka group’s carbon black unit

Three southern states are in the race for hosting the greenfield carbon black project of Phillips Carbon Black Ltd., a part of the RP Sanjiv Goenka Group. Indications are that Telangana is emerging as the favourite vis-a-vis the two other shortlisted States, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.

“While we prefer a coastal location, Telangana has made a very good offer,” group chairman Sanjiv Goenka said at a press meet to announce PCBL’s half-yearly results. “We do not have any unit in south India,” he said, adding that the group owned some 120 acres in Ennore, Tamil Nadu. ...  more >


After scripting a turnaround and becoming profitable, RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group-owned Phillips Carbon Black Ltd (PCBL) will invest ₹200 crores towards capacity expansion over the next two years.

Focus will be on increasing business from the speciality black segment.

According to Kaushik Roy, Managing Director, the company will look at 20-25 per cent increase in its capacity to nearly 5,00,000 tonne per annum from the existing 4,10,000 tonne per annum.

Considered to be the seventh largest carbon black maker in the world and the largest in India, PCBL currently has four plants – one at Palej and Mundra in Gujarat, one in Durgapur, West Bengal, and another at Kochi, Kerala. KOLKATA: The world’s leading carbon black industry, Phillips Carbon Black Limited (PCBL) is aggressively working to ramp up speciality and value-added carbon in the next three years.

PCBL sources said, “We are aiming at taking up speciality and value-added carbon production to at least 40 per cent of our total production in the next three years. In value term it will be more than 50 per cent of our turnover”.

Currently, speciality and value added carbon are about 20 per cent of the total production of the company. ...  more >


Kolkata, Aug 10, RP Sanjiv Goenka group company Phillips Carbon Black Ltd (PCBL) today said, it will be investing Rs 300 crores to ramp up the capacity and was also evaluating a greenfield carbon black plant in South India.

“We have a capacity of 4.8 lakh tonnes per annum of carbon black and now we will be investing Rs 300 crore in Palej and Mundra plants of Gujarat to add another 80,000 tonnes of capacity. The new capacity will be ready by FY2019,” PCBL chairman Sanjiv Goenka said. ...  more >
